Privacy
My Bus is a free, independent app run by LaunchCraft. Here is everything it collects and why. There is no login and no account, and the app never asks for your location.
Analytics
This app uses Google Analytics to understand which stops, routes and searches are actually used, so effort goes where commuters need it. That includes the text of what you search for. It does not include your name, phone number, or precise location — this app has no login and never asks for your location.
Route requests
If you ask us for a route we don’t carry yet, we store where you said you travel from and to, so we know which timetable to add next. There is no account and we don’t know who you are.
You can also give us an email address on that form, and only there. We use it once, to tell you that route is live, and then never again — it isn’t a mailing list and it isn’t an account. Leaving it blank changes nothing about your request. If you’d like it removed before we get there, email info@launchcraft.co.za and we’ll delete it.
Instead of an email, or as well, you can tap “Notify me on this phone”. Your browser then gives us a notification address for this phone. It identifies the browser to its notification service, not you. We use it the same way: one notification when that route is added, and never again. We also note which language the form was in, so that notification is in the same one. If you give us both, you get both: one notification and one email, because each one says it will tell you. To have it removed, email the same address, or turn notifications off for this site in your browser, which stops it working at once.
Feedback
Feedback you send us is stored without any contact details at all, which is why we can’t reply to it.
Advertising
To help cover its running costs, this app may show a few ads from Google AdSense. They never appear inside a timetable or the search, and the bus times work the same with or without them.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or other sites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of some other vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Google will ask for your consent before ads use cookies, through its own consent message.
Your rights under POPIA
Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), LaunchCraft is responsible for the personal information described above: what you search for (through Google Analytics), the places in a route request, and an email address or notification address if you choose to give one. We use it to run and improve the app, to tell you once that your route has been added, and, through ads, to pay for keeping the app free. Google processes advertising data under its own policies.
To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email info@launchcraft.co.za. If you are not happy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
